In a game involving two scrappy 8-10 year old all star teams both intent on playing the next day, only one team would emerge victorious after 9 innings and over three and a half hours of Little League baseball. The PALL All-Stars found themselves on the short end of a final score of 17-11 and eliminated from the Section 2 Tournament. The final score in no way reflects the intensity and heart which was demonstrated on both sides.
Quartz Hill Little League opened up with a commanding 8-1 lead after 4 innings. It was a five run bottom of the 5th inning which energized PALL leading to two additional runs in the 6th to tie the game. PALL had a runner on third with two outs but could not deliver the knock out punch to end the game. A scoreless 7th inning followed which brought on the "California tie breaker" runner on 2nd to start the 8th inning for both teams on offense. Again, both teams found a way to capitalize and score a run each taking a 9-9 tie into the 9th inning. At this point, two QHLL batters found their way onto base loading them up for the top of their order. Consecutive singles drove in runs breaking the tie and again the bases were loaded setting up additional runs to score which would eventually be the game winner for QHLL.
Facing a 17-9 deficit in the bottom of the ninth, PALL battled to the end scoring 2 more runs while leaving everything they had on the baseball field.
The PALL 8-10 year old All Stars went deep into the summer season claiming the District 17 banner and representing PALL well in the Section 2 Tournament hosted at our own Victory Park.
Pasadena American Little League recognizes that the accomplishments of this team would not have been possible without the endless hours in the batting cages and practice field by Manager Lansford plus Coach Hofman and Coach Sparks. We look forward to seeing these fine 10 year olds in the seasons to come: Andrew, Bobby, Christopher, Cooper, Dean, Elijah, Garrett, Gilbert, Kaiden, Kian, Lawton, Liam and Melinda. You made us all proud!
Also, an extra shout out to Tournament Director, Dennis Clougherty, and his team for running the District 17 Tournament for 9-11 year olds followed by this Section 2 Tournament for 8-10 year olds. Both tournaments have run smoothly and represent us well to the other Districts and Sections. Thank you to Dennis and PALL League President, Dale Pearson, for making this possible.
